Systemic Racism in the United States Must End

Posted May 29, 2020

Dear Friends,

This week, the nation suffered another American tragedy. We all witnessed the brutal death of George Floyd, a fellow American whose life was taken by bad actors among the ranks of those who are sworn to protect and serve. This behavior is abhorrent, and those responsible must be held accountable for their actions and for tarnishing the uniform worn honorably by men and women of all races in blue.

For far too long the nation has experienced events like this from Emmett Till to Eric Garner, to the thousands in our history who vanished from society in the South never to be seen again. We the people must all stand up in unanimity against this violence. It is sad to note that Dr. King’s words ring as true today as they did in 1963 when he wrote, “We will have to repent in this generation, not only for the evil words and deeds of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.”

For the sake of our communities, for the sake of our brothers and sisters, for the sake of the soul of our nation we must change now.
